International Superstars : GlossyBox

With ending of the Olympic games this months GlossyBox theme: International Superstars, seems very befitting. I really like that the products in the limited edition boxes are all hero products from around the world, giving us the chance to try out cult status items without leaving the comfort of our own homes!

'

Lipcote -  United Kingdom

The original lipstick sealer and secret of long lasting, feather fade and water resistant lipstick'

I can't wait to try this product out and I'm so glad to have received it! Wow this product brings back memories! A friend of mine used to use lipcote all the time when we were younger and I remember always asking to use it again and again. Its a great little must have product for lipstick lovers who don't want to worry about lipstick transferring, whether that be on a glass or melting off your face. It pairs perfectly with the Glossybox lipstick too! RRP £3.99 (7ml)

DHC Deep Cleansing Oil - Japan

'This revolutionary water-soluable cleanser is better than any other make-up remover you've ever tried'

This Japanese cleansing oil is a highly talked about iconic product. It contains quite a few skin-loving ingredients such as olive oil and Vitamin E. What I love most about this product is its compact ingredients list, sometimes simplicity is most effective, plus it contains zero parabens! Full size 200ml £18.50

Valentina Addoluto Eau De Parfum - Italy

'intentionally seductive, intense, beautiful feminine fragrance by Valentino'

I don't really get that excited about receiving perfume samples in Glossybox, I find they just tend to get put into a draw and I never see them again. Valentina is a lovely
feminine fragrance but not one I'll be investing in. Full size 50ml £61.

Vera Valenti  L'Ombre a Paupiere Margarita - Spain

This is a eyeshadow palette from Spanish brand Vera Valenti. It contains 10 different eyeshadow shades and a sponge tip applicator. I'm not too keen on this palette as the shadows are quite poorly pigmented which is a shame as I enjoy using compact palettes for a quick and easy makeup look. RRP £3.85.

Alessandro Pro White - Germany

Optically brightening effect nail polish with anti-yellowing formula for radiant white and gleaming nails'

I was very intrigued by this product and will definitely be using it as a base coat before nail polish applications in hopes of reviving my dull nails.
  RRP £7.85 10ml

 Glossybox lipstick in Glossy Pink

'Professional beauty lipstick for soft and glamorous lips with luminous, long lasting colour'

A little Glossybox extra, a full size 4g Glossybox lipstick in the shade Glossy Pink. Wow I didnt realise Glossybox had started to formulate its own products, what an achievement! The lipstick is a gorgeous colour that has great pigmentation and wears really well. The only downside is the packaging which isn't really a reflection of the price.
 RRP £9.50.

Overall this months Glossybox had a few superstars but others failed to meet their potential. What did you think of your Glossybox this month? Did you get some gold medal worthy items?

Festival Nails

I've been loving nail art recently and thought I'd put my new found obsession to good use by getting myself in the festival mood with festival nails! Using a pattern inspired by this summers native american trend, its actually quite simple as I've got lots of practice to do, but it looks quite effective! To help me on my nail art journey I think I need to invest in some tools as trying to paint thin lines with a thick nail brush wasn't the easiest of options :)

Nail polish used:

Models own - Blooming Pink - Base
Models own - Black Magic - Tips
Models own - Utopia - White strip
Essie - Going Incognito - Green strip

Are you going to any festivals? If so how are you going to paint your nails? :)

Naked Rescue

Over the past few months I have totally rejigged the types of qualities I look for in the skin care and hair care products I use. I am far more health conscious than I ever used to be and I think I'm right in saying (please correct me if I'm wrong) i've noticed that recently the beauty industry seems to be more aware of what ingredients go into what products too. Being a science student I have the opportunity to research and read about the impacts of many different types of lotions and potions on nature. I have started to take more of a mindful approach, taking the time to think about the types of products that I come into contact with. Now,I'm no angel...and sadly I'm not a total convert as I love so many products that unfortunately aren't 100% pure/natural/healthy etc, but I try my best when I can.

In my view everyday hair care is one of the most important steps in my hygiene routine to which I really try hard to find a natural option. The  frequency and how much your body comes into contact with shampoo and conditioner make it quite a high priority of mine. I have been using sulfate free, paraben free, natural hair care for a while now and to be totally honest with you....I've been struggling to find something as good as the products I used before. Its a big challenge to find natural shampoo that leaves your hair feeling clean without being too stripping, as well as one that nourishes and lathers well.

I was fortunate enough to have the chance to try out two hair products from the Naked line: the Naked rescue sweet almond and sunflower intensive care shampoo and the Naked rescue shea butter and olive intensive care conditioner, both designed for frizzy, damaged hair.
As a brand Naked ticks all the boxes,

  • No nasty sulfates - check
  • No pesky parabens - check
  • Natural ingredients - check
  • Does not test on animals - check
  • Lathers well - check
  • Smells amazing - check
  • Leaves my hair feeling nourishing - check
  • Affordable - check
  • Accessible - check

And the list could go on and on!

My Thoughts

Both the shampoo and conditioner in the Naked Rescue Intensive Repair line are specifically designed to restore heat distressed and dry hair.  The key ingredients: shea nut butter ,olive oil and brassicacae oil extracts work together to repair and improve the appearance of split, damaged and frizzy hair. The duo are formulated and packed full of natural conditioning elements that aid in rejuvenating weakened hair without any nasty petrochemical residue build up.

The shampoo is gentle on both the hair and scalp and cleanses without stripping the natural oils from the hair so its perfect for both coloured or non coloured locks. My thing about the shampoo is the scent, is unbelievable: sweet almond and favourite sunflower, so much so I even look forward to washing my hair!

As for the conditioner, it's thick and luscious similar to that of an intensive mask. Don't worry though its in no way heavy and doesn't weighing my hair down. After washing the nourishing conditioner out of my hair it feels moisturized without leaving any unwanted residue.

Also for even more eco friendly points the packaging has been carefully designed from 50% recyclable materials. The shampoo bottle has a cleaver little spout; with one push of a button it allows you to open and close the bottle with no mess and making it easy to use whilst wet. No more slippery accidents now!

I'm thoroughly impressed with Naked and can't wait to try out more of their line! Have you tried any products from Naked? What would you recommend?

Revenge - My New Addiction

No I've not turned into an evil b*tch on a revenge spree, i've simply become obsessed with a new TV series called Revenge. When I first came across the TV programme I was instantly drawn in by its dark and intriguing name, I already had thoughts about back stabbing and manipulative actions and after just 5 minutes I was hooked. Since then I have watched the entire season and am itching for September to roll around so that I can get my Revenge fix back...yes sad I know but you'll understand once you've watched your first episode believe me!

So now the challenge of telling you why I love Revenge without giving too much away and spoiling it for you, don't worry I wont :)

First of all the main character Emily Thorne - the blonde bombshell in the picture above and below played by Emily Van Camp, is a spicy mix of cunning vengefulness hidden behind an innocent facade. She's back in the Hampton's to right some of the wrongsShe may look innocent with those blonde curls and pretty smile, but her cruel stare and her acts are not so innocent!

However, it is revealed that Emily has been to the Hamptons before as a little girl. In reality, Emily is Amanda Clarke, whose father was framed for a crime he didn't commit and sent to prison for life. She was permanently separated from him and never saw him again. Now, she's returned to the Hamptons, intent on getting revenge against those who wronged her and her father. As she sets her plan in motion, Emily tries to navigate the upper society to destroy those who betrayed her father. But the further she goes, the more her emotions get involved and the more she questions her motives and the moves she makes.

I hope you enjoy Revenge as much as I have. You can watch it here on Channel 4.

Blu Elettrico

I have been loving adding pops of colour into my makeup recently. Today I started off with a neutral bronze eye shadow base: using Urban Decay Midnight Rodeo, then applying a light aqua blue to the outer corner of the eye: Urban Decay Deep End, little by little and lots of blending, to deepen the outer corner slightly I used Urban Decays Evidence, again blending it into the previous colours. In the inner corner for a brightening highlight I used Urban Decay Midnight Is eye shadow.

Under the eye I softly blended the darkest blue shade Urban Decay Evidence. For the eye liner I applied it thicker towards the outer half of my eye and added a subtle wing, using Rimmel Exaggerate Automatic Waterproof Eye Definer in the colour Aqua. To complete the look I applied quite a few coats of Rimmel's Day to Night Mascara, just using the lengthening wand.

Animal Instincts - Dip Hem Dress

I recently brought this gorgeous dim hem dress (currently on sale here at Dorothy Perkins for £22!) and have been loving how relaxed and effortless it looks on. Its ideal for the summer, perfect for summery days and it can be easily transformed into a more night time appropriate look with a cute belt and tip top wedges. I personally find the dim hem dress trend very flattering and a great way to show off your sexy summer legs (not that I have them!) without bearing it all and feeling too exposed.

I adore how this trend can be so feminine with the use floaty fabrics …its a beautiful look. Animal prints are usually something I don't get drawn too but I instantly fell in love with this dress, the subtle fade out of the print as it fans out at the bottom of the dress helps to break up the pattern, making it more wearable.

The length of the dress is perfect for a petite girl like myself, the back isn't too long and the proportions are just right; I don't lose any of my much needed height!

Do you like the dip hem trend? Have you found a bargain recently? I'd love to hear from you.

Empties June #1

Liz Earle - Cleanse and Polish Hot Cloth Cleanser
Whats not to love about this cleanser? It has such a fresh clean natural scent, it feels and leaves my skin feeling incredible, and my skin always glows after using this! So much so that I have a quite a few back ups as I am paranoid about running out. I use it in morning and sometimes at night alternating with my other love the Ren creamy cleanser.

Liz Earle - Skin Repair Moisturiser Normal/Combination
Like all Liz Earle products this contained naturally active ingredients, including borage oil, antioxidants and vitamin E. The product is as high quality as every other product I've tried from the brand. The formula is light yet has the perfect balance of moisture adding properties. There's no nasty smell and is gentle enough for sensitive skins. The 50ml pot lasted me quite a while, I wasn't sure if it contained an SPF so I used this moisturiser at night to be on the safe side. The only negative bit I have to say about this product like many other moisturisers on the market is that it comes in a pot, which isn't the most hygienic way of packaging this product.

Olay Complete Care - Daily UV Moisturiser Spf 15
As I said previously I used the Liz Earle Skin Repair Moisturiser at night due to my confusion over spf, so in the day I used Olay's Daily UV Moisturiser with an spf of 15. Again like the Liz Earle the formula was light however it was a little bit more oily and less moisturising than its natural counterpart. There was no obnoxious scent and it did all that it said on the tin. It worked but as it was nothing special I'll be buying a different moisturiser next.

Charles Worthington - Takeaway On The Go Dry Shampoo
This is my quick fix handbag hair must have, and something I repurchase again and again. Its handbag size friendly and has a refreshing scent making it perfect for a quick hair revitalisation.

Clinique - Air Brush Concealer
I brought this concealer with a boots voucher I was given as a treat, I usually wouldn't spend £16 on a concealer with my student budget. I was really impressed with the coverage and it didn't leave a nasty cakey finish. Having quite pale skin with pinky undertones finding the perfect concealer can be quite a challenge, so going to a more high end counter and getting matched to a shade can definitely save you money in the long run. My favourite quality of this concealer is how light it is whilst giving a good coverage, I was using Collection 2000 lasting perfection concealer which my skin hated as it was far too heavy on my skin (I broke out so badly!). I will be repurchasing this soon...when I can justify the price :)

Collection 2000 - Illuminating Touch Concealer
After using lasting perfection I wanted to find something that was as light as the Clinique AirBrush concealer but not as expensive. I liked the Illuminating Touch but it ran out so quickly and the shade was a little too orange for my skin tone. The coverage was average and wasn't cakey yet it required a lot of work. I don't think I will repurchase this. So any recommendations for a light good coverage concealer would be great :) ?

No.7 - Lash Adapt Mascara
I adore this mascara and everytime I get a No.7 £5 voucher I stock up on these. I love how natural my lashes look after using this yet how full and lengthening the formula is. I don't get any smudging or transfer and its super easy to remove. This was the last one in my stock up a few months ago, so hopefully boots have a £5 No.7 voucher promotion soon!

CoverGirl - Last Blast Volume
If only we had CoverGirl in the UK! This is another mascara love of mine, the perfect combination of length, definition and volume without unwanted clumps. Am I wrong in thinking that MaxFactor are under the same umbrella company as CoverGirl, are their mascara's similar?! I think i'll give Maxfactor mascaras ago soon.

Blistex - Moisturising Lip Balm
With this weird English summer? Weather we've been having lately my lips have been getting very dry, so dry in fact that I finished a whole tube of lip balm! The formulation is very moisturising and gives a lovely healthy sheen to the lips without feeling sticky. I have far to many lip balms to buy any more so I wont be buying this again any time soon.

I hope you enjoyed my first empties instalment, I love watching youtube videos on empties videos and decided it was about time I blogged about some of my used up products too :) .

NOTD - Orly Preamp

Preamp nail polish is one of the brand new shades from the Orly Electronica Collection. It's a beautifully dynamic blue toned pink shade packed with golden shimmer, adding the perfect touch of dimension.

The formula is very easy to work with and it dries very fast, without streaks or rough texture. The polish is quite sheer which is great as you can use it as a top coat to brighten up any old polish, or if you want more of an opaque finish like I've gone for all you need is two coats! Once dry the polish has great staying power, I didn't get a single chip all week whilst I was wearing it!

The Electronica collection is a range of four shades capturing the essence of the electro 80's. The four shades include 'Preamp' (the shade I am wearing) described as a 'cool pink shimmer',

'Decoded' (far left) described as 'edgy slate grey', 'Shockwave' described as a 'stunning royal blue' and 'Synchro' described as a 'dusky pink hue shifting from pink to blue to lilac' . This collection takes you all the way through from summer, to autumn, to winter nails in just four fab shades!

The Electronica collection is available online from beautybay for £7.50 per bottle or if you fancy trying them all the mini-4 pack is £12.50, alternatively you can purchase from selected Orly stockists for £10.25.

GlossyBox Sexy Summer June 2012

This months GlossyBox theme was all about getting ready for the summer, including products which could cover your every summer need, to ensure that you are beach beautiful. With the English weather being a bit of a let down at the moment this box definitely added a little ray of sunshine to my day. The box this month also included a special item, a natural GlossyBox makeup brush, perfect for powders. And so now
down to business....

What I got in this months Sexy Summer box.......

HD Brows - Precision Tweezers
Perfect for maintaining the sharpest of brows at home or on the go. Who doesn't love a good pair of tweezers! I was really happy to find these in this months box as I am forever misplacing my Tweezermans!

BM Beauty - Summer Warmth Bronzer
A multi-purpose pure mineral bronzer, perfect for adding a hint of summer warmth to your face. It looks like a little will go a long way with this baby!

Caudalie - Eaux Fraiches
I love receiving new perfume samples, they're ideal to pop in your handbag for an on the go refresh and pick me up. The scent is gorgeously light and floral, a great summer fragrance.

Vichy - Dermablend Ultra Corrective Foundation Sample
The sample pack contains 6 different small sample shades all with SPF 30, fragrance free and offering a higher than the normal coverage. Its nice to be able to try out and find the perfect shade before committing to purchase as Vichy testers aren't that widely available. I like that we were given a few shades as oppose to a foundation stick that might have been in the wrong shade :)

What did you think of this months GlossyBox, did you get a different set of samples? Do you feel these were great summer ready samples?
