Beauty On A Budget : No 3

When life gives you lemons…make something beautiful

It a widely known fact that lemons are great for cleansing, clarifying as well as helping to restore the pH balance when your body is overly acidic. Lemon juice contains useful ingredients such as enzymes, which can cleanse the skin of dead cells, rich fruit acids and high amounts of vitamin C, that will help with a whole host of problems with your body, including pimples! Vitamin C is essential in the formation of collagen, which you need to maintain the structure of your skin, keeping it looking young and healthy. Here are a few beauty tips using lemon juice, which you can use to help look and feel fabulous from head to toe.
If your nails need a little TLC
Soak your fingernails (or toenails) in a bowl of freshly squeezed lemon juice (as the bottle stuff has lots of other unhelpful ingredients) for about 10 minutes. Using an old, fairly soft toothbrush or a nailbrush, brush your nails with a mixture of equal parts of white vinegar and warm water, rinsing it off with warm water afterwards. This should add a lovely healthy shine and strength to your nails.

To Treat Black Heads
Right before you’re about to go to bed, squeeze some lemon juice onto a cotton ball or pad and use it to rub the lemon juice over the areas that contain blackheads. When you wake up, simply rinse your face with cool water. The citric acid from the lemon juice will help to naturally dissolve the oils that form the blackheads in your skin! Repeat this every night until the blackheads have gone.

For an Inexpensive Natural Conditioner
Mix the juice of one lemon with one cup of warm water and apply to hair, leave it in for a few minutes allowing it to work its magic, then rinse. This will add a fresh bounce and healthy shine to your hair. Or if your hair is quite dull and damaged prepare 3/4 cup olive oil, 1/2 cup of honey and 3 tablespoons of lemon juice in a container. Wash your hair as normal but leaving out the conditioner. After towel drying your hair work the lemony mixture evenly throughout your hair (you can use a wide toothed comb if you wish). Glamorously cover your hair with a plastic cap and leave in for about ½ an hour. Pop back into the shower and shampoo and rinse your hair as usual.
Lemon juice can also help those with Dry Skin too!
For a moisturizing mask mix together equal amounts of olive oil, honey and lemon and apply it to any areas where your suffer from dry skin. Allow the mask to dry (about 10 minutes) and rinse off with warm water J

Lemony Exfoliator
Rub a cut lemon dipped into a half-teaspoon of sugar over your face for a few minutes. Do this every night to help remove accumulated dead skin cells, to refresh your skin. If using on your face be very gentle, treating your face as if it were silk, rubbing too vigorously can do more harm than good :)
If you suffer from Dandruff
Mix a few tablespoons of fresh lemon with some warm olive oil. To apply gently rub the mix into your scalp, allowing it to remain in your hair for about 15 minutes, then shampoo as usual.

 For Fresh breath
The acids within lemon juice (although alkalizing) can help to destroy nasty bacterial that can cause bad breath. Simple squeeze a bit of lemon juice into your water bottle to help keep your breath fresh throughout the day :

I hope these tips were useful and if you do try some of them out J I’d love to hear what you think
